 10/01/2007 GEORGE MICHAEL has vigorously defended his right to drive in court,  George Michael has entered a plea of not guilty after he was charged with being unfit to drive. The 43-year-old was not present at Brent magistrates court, north London,  but his lawyer told the court he was denying the charge. Police were alerted in the early hours of October 1st 06 when the George was found passed out in his Mercedes in Cricklewood, also north London. After being taken to hospital he was cautioned for possessing a drug, believed to be cannabis. Then before the close of 2006 he was formally charged with being unfit to drive. Last February he was given a separate caution for possessing cannabis after also being discovered unconscious at the wheel of his car at Hyde Park Corner, central London.

4/1/2007 Musical equipment belonging to George Michael was destroyed in a blaze following his New Year's Eve concert in Russia. George jetted into the country to perform the gig for 300 people at a private party outside of Moscow thrown by a Russian billionaire. Although he returned to the UK the following morning with his entourage, it is reported that equipment including a 42-inch plasma screen and other musical instrument was destroyed. His publicist has said that it is not known how much the damage will cost.
"There was a small fire after George had left the venue, but damage to his equipment has yet to be assessed," she said.
It is also reported that the fire may have started from pyrotechnics left over from the show and that damage was also caused by water from fire engines.
George is said to have been paid £1.5 million for the hour-long concert, making him the highest-paid artist in Russian history.

20/12/06 Sir Elton John seems to be pretty keen on putting his feud with George Michael behind him. The 59-year-old singer branded George as "boring" but now he has done an about turn, praising him for his recent tour.
Speaking to the press at the after show party for the premiere for It's A Girl Boy Thing, a film produced by his partner David Furnish, Sir Elton said that he is "really pleased" for George.
"I'm so thrilled that George is back out on tour putting on a great show," he told the press. "When I did that interview saying I thought George should get out more, I just meant I thought he should get back on stage doing what he does best. I haven't had a chance to see him perform on this tour but everyone tells me it's great."

 1/11/06 GEORGE MICHAEL has launched a scathing attack on RUPERT MURDOCH, labelling the media mogul "the devil".  George, is stunned by Murdoch's control over a large percentage of the world's media and believes he is portrayed negatively in the mogul's papers and TV shows because he is a liberal homosexual. Speaking  on the TV show GEORGE MICHAEL - I'M YOUR MAN: A SOUTH BANK SPECIAL, George  insists he has been against Murdoch since the early days of his musical career. He says, "I think Murdoch is the devil and has been for 20 years. "The only dignity is in autonomy. I was so right about Murdoch. Twenty years later we have a media dictator." Georgeclaims his musical success began to slow down after his controversial song SHOOT THE DOG in 2002, which some perceived as anti-US President GEORGE W BUSH. Murdoch is well-known for his right wing Republican stance. George continues, "Before 2002, I had an unflinching hold on the charts. Everything I did was a radio hit. Since SHOOT THE DOG, I have not had a surehold hit." George's biggest hit in  Britain since Shoot The Dog has been AMAZING, which was  number four in 2004


 

8/10/06 Record label BMG have rubbished claims they will drop George Michael after his arrested George,  was caught slumped in a stupor in his car, was arrested for possessing marijuana for the second time this year. But he has the "full support" of his record label, and will not be sacked. An insider at the label says, "We'd never tell him what to do. We never bully our artists. If there was a time when record companies did that, it is long gone. "We rang him up to ask if there's anything we could do, but that's it. We're backing him in his personal life and his decisions. He has our full support. "We're not going to sack him, we're supporting him."

 GEORGE MICHAEL may be barred from entering the US, after he received a police caution for possessing marijuana on Wednesday (29MAR06). George, who has a home in America, was taken into custody last month (FEB06) after London police allegedly found cannabis and another drug in his car. An immigration spokesman says, "This caution could certainly cause problems, but it has to be stressed that this sort of thing is dealt with on a case by case basis. "We can't say one way or another without reviewing all the details of the charges. But drug convictions can make things difficult for foreign visitors."

Georgios (Yorgos) Kyriacos Panayiotou was born on 25 June 1963 in Finchley, London, England. 

First served his pop apprenticeship in the million-selling duo Wham!, the most commercially successful, teen-orientated band of the 80s.

By the time Wham! split in 1986, he was left with the unenviable task of reinventing himself as a solo artist.

His pilot single, 'I Want Your Sex' was banned by daytime radio stations and broke his string of number 1s in the UK.

He replaced 'Cousin Bruce Morrow' as the early evening disc jockey at WABC Musicradio 77 in New York in 1974.

A duet with Elton John on 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me' revived his UK chart fortunes, reaching number 1 in December 1991, and also topping the US charts. In 1992, the Sunday Times announced his arrival as one of the richest men in the UK.
